The apartment is located in the garden of a beautiful 18th-century mansion house known as the Hôtel de Bonneval – at 16 rue du Parc Royal in the historic Marais District of Paris.
Transformed into a street in 1545, this ancient lane was successively named rue du Parc-du-Roi, rue du Parc des Tournelles, then rue du Parc Royal from 1605 onwards, as it led to the gardens of the old Hôtel des Tournelles where various Kings of France enjoyed staying.
The Hôtel de Bonneval was included in the French Inventory of Historical Monuments in 1961. The listed items are : the street portal ; facades and roofs of the two buildings flanking the gate ; the entire pavilion courtyard, on the left, in which a stairwell is decorated with paintings ; the remaining old parts of a pavilion in the second courtyard.
The modern part of the condominium dates back to 1970. It is reached by walking past the garden ponds where water fountains murmur a sweet melody from April to October.
